After working for more than a decade in Athens as a marketing professional in the banking industry, Eleni Korkondeila decided it was time for a career change. Following her passion for design, Eleni opened up her own boutique "Soleil" on the charming island of Milos. Eleni gives us a local's insights on where to swim, shop and watch the sun set on this undiscovered island paradise.

1. Which is your favourite beach on the island?

Milos has countless beaches (and the most amazing white caves which have to be seen to be believed) so this is not an easy question! My favorite beach changes from time to time, so this year it has to be Chivadolimni, a white sandy beach from where you can see the port of the island and the horizon. My all time favorite is Fyriplaka… a simple piece of heaven on earth! Adventurous types will love Tsigrado beach, where you have to climb down a cliff with the help of a rope - what you see when you get down there is so worth it!

2. If you could only eat at one restaurant in Milos for the rest of your days, which would it be?

Gialos at Pollonia is my favorite restaurant on the island and where we usually dine with friends and family. The chef is top, top, top and his dishes are always unforgettable - not to mention the traditional Pitarakia (small cheese pies made with local cheese, onions and mint) that are made by Ms. Ioanna who is what we call a chrisohera (χρυσοχέρα) or golden-handed! I also love the extended wine list and especially the Porto Caras Malagouzia - it's a must-try.

3. A lesser known fact about Milos...

Apart from the Venus of Milos (the famous statue that we all love and was found here) not many people know that Milos is volcanic! The two highest points of the island, the mountain Profitis Ilias and Kastro, were created from volcanic eruptions. It is one of the most interesting places to visit on the island, especially for lovers of natural phenomena.

4. Let's get down to shopping!

Lately Milos has many different shopping options, from small fashion boutiques like Soleil, Aelia Vintage or Votsalo. Visitors can go crazy for jewellery and accessories at stores like Gaia, Χρυσομηλο or Οψιδιανος. They are all worth a visit, but once you start, you may not be able to stop!

5. Everyone associates Greece with that magical sunset. Where is your favourite spot on the island to enjoy the view and just let time pass you by?

Personally, my favourite spot on the island is the church of Panagia Tourliani, a small Cycladic white chapel at the top of a cliff that offers an endless, stunning sea view…this is probably my favourite spot on the planet…where I go to chill out, decompress or just watch the sun set!
